Hi, I am Ingrid van der Westhuizen
Difficulties in my childhood made me seek counselling at an early age. I wanted to understand myself better and counselling gave me an opportunity to grow in ways I never could have imagined, and it has completely transformed my life over the decades.
I have a solid understanding of myself and my own processes. I am a qualified Counsellor and Gestalt Psychotherapist. I started my studies at a mature age and have been in private practise since 2015.

I am a member of the Australian Counselling Association. I also work as an EAP (Employee Assist Program) provider, where I apply Brief Solution Focused Therapy - mainly Online.

I have always been passionate about people of all ages and genuinely desire to be present with them in their situation. I know the importance of feeling supported and being listened to. From a young age I could see situations from the others perspective and have always been able to be non-judgemental.
I am calm and friendly by nature with a good sense of humour. My compassion for others and my ability to genuinely listen are amongst some of my strongest qualities. I believe that balance in life is important, and I do my best to practise living in the moment.
I know that change is always possible, and I believe it’s essential to keep learning more about yourself and to prioritise your mental health. I feel very fortunate that my work is my passion. I love what I do.
When I am not working, I love spending my time in nature. I am a keen hiker/walker and cyclist. My children are all grown up and flew the coup many moons ago. I love spending time with my family and friends. I also love swimming in the ocean, cooking and reading. And oh, did I mention I love to travel!
I believe in life-long learning and I keep up to date with my professional development. Counselling rooms located in Jindalee; North of the River in Perth and I also meet with rural and remote clients over Zoom and Telephone.
