How to book a session on the website

Booking online is simple and convenient. Just click the Book Now button and browse available dates and times. Once you’ve found an appointment that suits you, click to confirm and provide some basic contact details, including your email address so we can send your booking confirmation and session reminders.

Payment is not taken during the booking process - this is handled at the end of your counselling session.

If you’re unable to find a suitable time or would prefer to speak with someone directly, feel free to call or email me to discuss your options.

Can I call to book a session?

If you prefer to book by phone, that’s absolutely fine, I’d be happy to speak with you. It gives us a chance to find a time that suits you, and also allows me to learn a little about you and explain what you can expect from your first session.

What is the Cancellation Policy?

I kindly ask that you respect the time I’ve set aside for our meeting (at least 50 minutes). Should you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide me with at least one business day's notice.

If you do not attend your appointment and fail to notify me at least one business day in advance, I reserve the right to apply a cancellation fee.

What happens after I book my first appointment?

Once your appointment is booked, you’ll receive a confirmation email containing all the important details, including the date and time of your session, directions to the Counselling Matters WA location, and available payment options.

What can I expect from my first appointment?

Your first appointment is a chance for us to get to know each other and begin building a foundation for our work together. I’ll ask about your background, current challenges, and what you’re hoping to gain from therapy. You’re welcome to share as much – or as little – as you feel comfortable.

This session is also an opportunity for you to get a sense of my approach and to see whether it feels like the right fit for you. Establishing a safe and supportive space is the first step toward meaningful progress.

How many appointments will I need?

There’s no fixed number of therapy sessions—it really depends on your individual needs, goals, and circumstances. However, to give you a general idea, many people begin to notice meaningful progress after 12–20 sessions. Some may benefit from fewer, while others may require longer-term support.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown:

  • Short-term therapy
Approaches like solution-focused brief therapy can be effective in as few as 3–5 sessions. Other short-term models typically aim for 12–16 sessions.

  • Typical therapy
Many clients find that 12–20 sessions provide the time needed to work through key issues and achieve therapeutic goals.

  • Long-term therapy
For more complex or long-standing concerns, therapy may extend over several months or even years, offering deeper, ongoing support.

  • Tailored to your needs
The number of sessions depends on various factors, including the nature and severity of the issue, the type of therapy, your personal goals, and life circumstances.

  • Reviewing progress
We’ll regularly review your progress together to ensure therapy continues to meet your needs and expectations.

  • Financial considerations
Your budget and ability to attend sessions consistently are important factors, and we can discuss options that work best for you.

Ultimately, therapy is a collaborative process, and we'll work together to determine the right pace and duration for you.

How do I pay for a session?

Payment is taken at the end of your session. I accept EFTPOS (preferred), cash, and all major cards including Visa, Mastercard, and debit cards, with no surcharge fees. Mobile payment options such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay are also accepted.

For phone or Zoom sessions, payment instructions are included in your booking confirmation email.

Do you take notes during counselling?

Yes, I take brief notes during or after each session to help me better understand your needs and to track the progress we’re making together. These notes are stored securely and treated with the utmost confidentiality.

In line with professional and legal standards, client notes are retained for seven (7) years from the date of your last session.

Can I request proof of my sessions?

Counselling Matters WA does not provide single-session appointments solely for the purpose of obtaining letters for employers, educational institutions, or other third parties. Such documentation is only available to ongoing clients who are actively engaged in the counselling process.

If you have been mandated by the court to attend sessions for Anger Management, please note that a formal letter will only be issued after you have completed a minimum of six sessions. This same requirement applies to any existing legal or formal matters brought to counselling — clients must attend at least six sessions before any supporting documentation can be considered.

What about Privacy and Confidentiality

Everything you share during our sessions is treated with the utmost confidentiality. Creating a safe and private space is fundamental to the therapeutic process.

There are, however, a few specific circumstances where I may be legally or ethically required to break confidentiality. These include:

  • If I have reasonable grounds to believe that serious harm may occur to you or someone else.

  • If your counselling records are requested by a court of law.

  • If another individual or agency requests your information and you have given your written consent for me to release it.

In situations where a confidentiality concern arises, I will always aim to discuss the issue with you first – exploring the concerns, your options, and possible outcomes – before taking any further steps.
