What is counselling and how can it help me?
From time to time, we experience setbacks and difficulties in life. Often people will speak to friends or family about these issues, and this can be enough to get them through. However, sometimes we need more specialised assistance. This is where counselling comes in.
Counsellors are trained listeners who can help you address your thoughts and behaviours through proven methods of treatment. They are removed from your situation and because you have never met them before, you be honest and open in what you say and you can share with them how you really feel.
During the process, they can identify and address unhelpful thoughts and behaviours and then equip you with the tools you need to bounce back from these difficulties.
We see doctors when we are sick. Physiotherapists when we are sore and personal trainers when we want to get fit. Counsellors are who we see when we want to be mentally well again.
It is common to feel shame or embarrassment when speaking to someone about your problems, but knowing that a counsellor is safe, non-judgemental and confidential ear can be very reassuring. Their goal is to listen in order to help you, so you can deal with any negative feelings or life difficulties effectively and move on with your life.
All sessions are strictly confidential.
